I’ve always been a very inquisitive person. From a young age I can remember asking “why” about nearly everything. It wasn’t until I got older that those questions started to bend more towards theological and philosophical topics. I think most people see little kids asking questions as a good thing, as a cute way they learn about life. But that view tends to change when older kids or adults start asking questions, especially when that young adult is the pastor’s daughter. It’s often seen as a nuisance or it’s seen as stirring up trouble. Some people label it as backsliding. Which by definition has a negative bend.
I’ve gone through seasons of trying to suppress my questions for fear of being seen as divisive and I tend to suffer alone in silence. In the last year I’ve come to realize I’m not the only one with these questions. I’ve learned through my community that everyone has questions, and everyone isn’t necessarily looking for firm answers but for responses they can connect with. Responses that recognize we are all just humans still learning. Responses that are shaped not only biblically but also through life experiences.
I’ve met a lot of amazing people in the last few years and I’ve started interviewing some of them, asking them my questions and sometimes the questions of those close to me. My hopes is that through documenting my interviews with all kinds of people that I will be able to learn and maybe backslide into something better. I hope that you’ll join me!
